# In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye.

> Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
> -- 1 Corinthians 15:51-52

WHAT WE KNOW FOR CERTAIN

## Scripture is plain about the outcome. It is silent about the day.

Whatever a reader believes about timing, these four things are stated directly in the text, not inferred from a chart or a cycle.

        1

        Christ returns

        Acts 1:11, John 14:3

        2

The dead in Christ rise first

        1 Thessalonians 4:16

        3

The living are changed and caught up

        1 Corinthians 15:52, 1 Thess. 4:17

        4

No one knows the day or hour

        Matthew 24:36, Acts 1:7

“But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.”

      MATTHEW 24:36

WHERE BELIEVERS AGREE

## Wide agreement on the shape of the story.

Across pretribulation, midtribulation, posttribulation and amillennial readers, these points are held in common by the large majority of orthodox Christian traditions.

      Christ returns bodily and visibly

Not a metaphor or a private spiritual experience. Acts 1:11 says he will come “in like manner” as he left.

There is a real resurrection of believers

1 Corinthians 15 treats a physical resurrection as the center of the gospel, not an optional add-on.

Judgment and a final restored creation follow

Revelation 20-22 closes with judgment, a new heaven and new earth, and God dwelling with his people.

No one can calculate the date

Every major tradition condemns date-setting, even while disagreeing sharply on the sequence of events.

WHERE THEY DISAGREE

## Timing views, side by side.

The disagreement is almost entirely about when the church is taken up relative to a coming period of tribulation, and whether Revelation's timeline is future, past, or ongoing. This site does not adjudicate between them; it lays each one out plainly and sources every claim it makes about a living person's position.

        Pretribulation

The church is removed before a seven-year tribulation period begins (built on a gap some readers find between Revelation 3 and 4, and 1 Thessalonians 5:9).

Most widely held in modern American evangelicalism; popularized by the Scofield Reference Bible and dispensational teaching.

        Midtribulation

The church is removed partway through the tribulation, often tied to the seventh trumpet of Revelation 11:15.

A minority position, held as a middle path between pre- and posttribulation readings.

        Posttribulation

The church passes through the tribulation and is gathered at Christ's visible return, reading 1 Thessalonians 4 and Matthew 24 as describing one and the same event.

The historic majority view before the 19th century; still held broadly outside dispensational circles.

        Amillennial / Preterist-leaning

Revelation's judgments are read as largely fulfilled in the first centuries (the fall of Jerusalem, AD 70) or as symbolic of the whole church age, with no future seven-year period expected.

Common in Reformed, Catholic and Orthodox traditions going back to Augustine.
